Acha Gun Shika Mic (Drop the Gun, Grab the Mic) is an initiative aimed at creating societies free from juvenile gangs and conflict by using music as a tool to bridge gaps within communities—especially between the youth and security forces, youth and parents, and youth and community elders. Founded by Ohmslaw Montana, this initiative seeks to unite artists in a movement to champion peace and social cohesion through music.
With support from Youth and Women for Peace and Sustainable Development (YOWPSUD), the initiative has made significant strides in Mombasa, Kwale and Kilifi Counties, raising community awareness about the power of music to unite communities, safeguard cultural diversity, and foster sustainable peace among vulnerable groups.
In recognition of September as Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, YOWPSUD, in partnership with Ohmslaw Montana, is launching the #AchaGunShikaMic campaign. This campaign challenges artists to take the #ChangeChallenge by dropping powerful verses that inspire change in various aspects of everyday life, focusing on mental wellness, economic empowerment, and peace.
